Competition at its best at the Madrid Spain Masters by Iberdrola

The 2024 edition of this Super 300 has been full of excitement and players of the highest level.

The finals were hotly contested, with a very even level of equality between the athletes.

The mixed doubles opened the session, which was decided by 17-21, 21-12 and 21-13 for the Indonesian pair formed by Rivaldy and Mentari. For 54 minutes they thrilled the audience. Among them, members of the Indonesian embassy in Madrid who also gave the show in the stands.

Later, the women’s doubles started, which pitted the pairs Iwanaga – Nakanishi (Japan) against Kusuma – Pratiwi. An hour of duel that was resolved in favour of the Japanese by 12-21, 21-8 and 21-16. The Japanese gave their all, rowing to the end and coming from behind to win the match and be crowned champions.

Then came one of the most eagerly awaited matches. The world champion in Huelva 2021, Loh Kean Yew (Singapore) returned to Spain to give a badminton recital. In front of him, Toma Jr Popov, gave his all until the end. It was not enough to beat the Asian. Both offered the public a spectacle of great beauty and astronomical quality. A delight for the fans.

The fourth contest was the Thai derby. Ratchanok Intanon and Supanida Katethong met on centre court in Madrid. Thailand’s two best players ended their stay in Madrid with a very quick match in which Intanon won 21-12, 21-9.

Finally, the men’s doubles featured two extraordinary pairings. Gutama and Ish¡fahani (Indonesia) faced Arif and Yap (Malaysia). It was a match of intense and fast rallies, typical of the men’s doubles. A great spectacle that brought the Asian fans to their feet.

A wonderful tournament that, once again, has left the best badminton in the capital of Spain. Madrid has once again hosted this beautiful event that brings the top level of the world shuttlecock to the Spanish fans.
